Armistice Day: 11/11/11

Earlier in the year I was going through the library archives and I found a mysterious box. Inside the box was a handwritten letter from a WWI soldier, killed in action. The original copy! It really touched me. We don't really have anything else like it, a few historical maps, but nothing personal.

It was kindly donated by someone and then just left in the stacks to rot. I couldn't believe no one else seemed to care enough to do anything with it. Maybe I'm just nosy and no one else had bothered to open the box, I don't know. Anyway, in this box was a cache of photos. They were all of local people and annotated on the backs, so I managed to find photos of the young man who was killed and almost everyone he mentions in the letter. So I've scanned in the letter and the photos to share with you and to pay my respects to the brave men and woman who have died for their countries and their loved ones.

My copy of A Dance With Dragons arrived about half an hour ago! Hooray! So I'll be on hiatus until I've read it, to avoid spoilers! if you want me, send me an email or a PM on here and I'll see it! x

So, here, in all their splendour, are the photos from my holiday in Inverness, Scotland! They are predominately green and blue in colour and comprise mainly of ruined castles, burial chambers and my dog in varying states of dampness.

I have cool things to write about and photos to post, but I'm conscious that I haven't updated in forever! I've been on holiday and had a few health issues, but I've been reading and commenting, just not posting here! So, just to prove I'm alive (to those not on twitter!), here is a photo I took earlier in the week of two clouds that look like tanks rolling onto a battlefield!

IMPORTANT THINGS FIRST: Hello to the lovely new friends I made over at the ontd_asoiaf friending meme last week! I've got an intro post over here with some waffle and photos and stuff if there's anything you want to know about me.

And just so this isn't a redundant entry, I've been meaning to post this picture for ages. Some of you might have seen it on twitter already but...

I was sorting out a drawer and found this old photo ID of my Dad when he was younger. OMFG HOW SO JACK DAVENPORT, DAD? SERIOUSLY. Is it just me?

I can never watch PotC or FlashForward again without feeling like an enormous creeper. FML. It's like wishing on the Zoltar machine from BIG to have "a little bit of Jack Davenport in me" and waking up TO THIS!

I was completely overwhelmed by the comments to my last entry. I didn't know people cared so much. I honestly can't thank you enough, I was feeling a little lost and the things you said made such a difference. I can't believe that some of you thought I might even consider saying goodbye to you!

Anyway, I've geared myself up to do this thing so...LET'S DO IT.

I'm about to take a look at my friend's list now. I really hope I don't hurt your feelings if you aren't kept. I'm only cutting inactive journals, or people I've lost touch with. This is something I never thought I'd do but...OMG I JUST REMOVED ABOUT EIGHTY COMMUNITIES FROM MY FRIENDS LIST.

I guess I just didn't want to admit to the fact that I've moved on from various fandoms. But I have. I spend most days scrolling through my communities thinking TL;DR. I've kept the memberships for now, because I need some kind of BUFFER! This is so hard.

You know what is even harder still? This. I really don't want to make a "HANDS UP WHO LIKES ME!" post, but I just can't keep up with my friends list anymore. How are there 200 people on there? I swear I only know about twenty of you! I'm stupidly over-sensitive and I'm always heartbroken when I get the "________ has removed you from their friends list" email, so I'm petrified of cutting anyone and hurting their feelings, but...I just can't keep up with you all! :'-[

( In which I waffle about a potential friends cut that I probably won't go through with... )
